Thank you, random man at the gym!

Today Mark let me sleep in..til 9:30, actually! Munchkin came in and scared me awake (she still says she surprised me, but I'm going with scared!), and the first thing I thought was, "Oh no, we're late for the gym!" Of course my M-W-F schedule isn't a time sensitive one--that's T/Th with yoga class, so we weren't "late", but that's the way my brain works! We got to the gym and as I was grabbing my card from the file, an older man comes up to me and starts with, "Excuse me, I know this is none of my business, but...." (scaring me half to death, wondering what on earth he's going to comment on). He goes on to tell me that he's seen me at the gym and he's really impressed with my progress and ended with a big "Keep it up." Seriously, probably the best thing I've ever had a stranger say to me. So yes, I may only be halfway to my goal, but I have to remember-- I'm HALF way! That means I've done a lot, even though there's more to be done. So, thank you, random man at the gym, for reminding me that I'm well on my way. I've been a little slack-y lately. Still doing my workouts every day, but some days not really giving it my all. Plus I quit really tracking my food, which I need to start again. Thankfully, I haven't done any damage to my progress, I just haven't made more like I could have. I'm working on kicking it into high gear again!

Food allergy jackpot...

Munchkin had her birthday party yesterday and after it was over, we thought we could relax. Mark had made a really nice fruit/cheese tray and we had leftovers, so we were all snacking. Mark asked if Lil Man could have some cheese. He's almost 9 months, so I said why not. Not long after, he was super fussy (which we thought was him just being tired), so I tried to put him to sleep--and that's when I noticed his poor little face broken out in a horrible bout of hives. Then came the excess drooling. We were on Skype with Grandma and Grandpa so they could tell Munchkin happy birthday and see her playing with her toys when I made the call that he needed to go to the hospital. A quick goodbye (and an explanation after we got to the ER!) and we were on our way. I made him fuss the whole way so I knew he was still breathing and we got there pretty quickly. It was a busy night for the ER (when is it not?) so we had to wait a little bit. He started getting better as we were waiting, but still having huge amounts of mucus and his eyes were still red and swollen. They finally called us back to Triage and got his vitals (he's about 22lbs now!) and gave him a huge dose of Benadryl. They sent us back to the waiting room because they were full and within about 10 minutes, his face was completely clear and he was ready to nurse and sleep. Breathing was normal, no more drooling, no more huge sneezes with yucky Mark went up to the front desk and told them we were leaving, signed the paperwork, and home we went. This morning you'd never know he had an ER date last night! I've got a reminder on my phone set to call his pediatrician in the morning when they open (I know the ER doc would've said we needed a ped follow-up) to let them know what happened and get in to see them to figure out where we're gonna go from here. I'd already asked when we should get him allergy tested since we know he's at a higher risk of being allergic since Munchkin has such a laundry list and was told they typically do that at 12 months. I'm going to ask if we can do that earlier because I don't want a repeat of last night!!! I'm sure that his allergies will be the opposite of hers just to make our lives more interesting!!

Munchkin is THREE!!!

OMG where has the time gone?!? My lil baby turned 3 this week! Her party is on Saturday, because really, who wants to come to a party mid-week? So we'll have all that fun soon, but we did celebrate her actual birthday by taking her to Build-A-Bear Workshop and letting her build the Minnie inspired bear. We had to order it online and hide it in the garage for a few weeks, but she was so surprised and excited to get it. She loves anything Minnie mouse--which made choosing her party theme easy! We meant to give her the rest of the gifts from us, but forgot to get wrapping paper! She's so proud to answer "THREE!" when asked how old she is now. She even shows you how many fingers! She had her 3 year well baby check-up and got an A+ on everything but her weight....she's classified as "overweight" (which if you saw her, you wouldn't believe) so we have to deal with that--but I think it'll be all ok. I've gotten a different result with every chart I've used, so I'm not sure what to believe. We're having a hard time finding allergy-friendly foods that she likes and will eat consistently, so we've gotten her doctor to give us a referral to a nutritionist to be able to help us figure out what we can do for her. All in all, it's been a pretty great week for Munchkin. She found a soft football I bought for Mark on my senior year band trip to Walt Disney World and has loved playing "football team". She found an old flash drive on a lanyard and has taken it to be her whistle (she refuses to use the real whistle Mark has!) and loved playing at the park blowing her "whistle" after every "play". I think Mark's a proud papa on that one! She also started dance classes last week! So my sweet girl is 3...I can't believe how much she's grown in such a short time--and yet how little she still is. Three years seems like the blink of an eye and a whole lifetime. I can't wait to see how she grows in this next year!!
