Knitting addiction!!

So I guess there are worse things to be addicted to, but knitting is now my current obsession! I finally finished Lil' Man's blanket....it's made with love. I thought I'd messed up the second half, but no...I messed up the first half! I wrote out the pattern on my iPad for the second half and was very careful to not skip anything. No more flipping problems, but the second half is much bigger than the first. I'm not going to undo it all and start over, but I may make the pattern another time. Once I got into the groove (and had it all written out neatly), it was super simple and easy.

The "kite" blanket...the top is the beginning.
Lil' Man loves it anyway!!
I finished it last night and jumped right into the next project in my ravelry queue: a headband ear warmer! I finished it this afternoon, and may have been able to finish it last night except for the time I spent having to learn how to rib and do the called for increases. I learned from my last mistake and wrote the pattern out instead of just reading it out of iBooks.

Almost done!
Off the needles, just needs a button.
All finished!!
It has a crocheted flower which I am skipping. I've tried to crochet before, but this leftie cannot crochet right handed and I don't understand how to switch it to the left. I'm happy with the headband sans flower, so it's all good! I even watched the YouTube videos about the flower and can't manage to do it, but they are well done, so if you like to crochet and knit, it wouldn't be a hard project to do!
The next thing I have in my queue is leg warmers for Munchkin for dance class...and maybe some for me, since the 80s are back! (Ok, really, they'd just be for yoga class) I do need to get some yarn for those though, but I might try to make Munchkin's out of the yarn I have. It makes sense why I have so much left over, since I didn't make the first half of the blanket big enough! I'm not too sad about it though, I really love it!

January's MilSpouse (first) Friday Fill-In

Head over to Wife of a Sailor to link up for the (first) Friday Fill-In!

1. What’s one thing in the past month you would have changed?
I wouldn't have had the two kiddos and I get sick on Christmas!! Thankfully, Mark didn't get it, so he was able to take care of all of us. At least he was on leave!!

2. What was your favorite thing that happened in December?
I think it was everything leading up to Christmas. Munchkin was SO excited! Every day, she'd ask "Is it Christmas Eve???" Christmas morning was pretty awesome, but by Christmas afternoon, the kids and I were not happy campers!

3. What are you looking forward to in January?
Nothing in particular, really. We're taking Lil Man to get his first haircut tomorrow, but I'm not actually really looking forward to that! He's not going to look like my little baby anymore!

4. What did you do for New Year’s Eve?
We were super boring. We stayed home and watched movies on TV. We did switch over to "New Year's Eve with Carson Daly" (SO weird to not have Dick Clark there!!) to watch the ball drop and then looked out our window at the fireworks people were setting off down the street. We think they even managed to catch some of the woods on fire (they were at the park). Fun times. Then we went back to whatever TV movie we were watching...pretty sad I can't remember!

5. What are your hopes and wishes for 2013?
Happy and healthy. Minimal time apart--and with Mark going back to a "real" unit this spring, there's going to be trainings and whatnot he'll have to go to. Oh, and a smooth move this summer, since we're probably not going to extend our lease in this house. (NOT looking forward to moving.At.All.)

A crafty new year....

I'm hoping that I will be craftier this year. I want to make more stuff for the kiddos and try new things. Before Lil Man was born, I decided I wanted to knit him a blanket. Mom took me to JoAnn's and got me the supplies I needed. I started it, had to pull it apart, started it again, put it away, forgot about it, had to start over because I'd totally lost track of where I was, etc. I started it back up almost 2 weeks ago. It's a very simple pattern and quite easy, but I've managed to make some interesting mistakes! I flipped it (and back) without realizing it, dropped stitches, turned rows...but the worst was last night. The blanket is knit on the diagonal, with the widest part being 131 stitches. I held it up and it very plainly made it to the middle, but definitely did NOT decrease correctly. Mark called it the "Charlie Brown blanket".....I pulled it out until I got  to the middle and I'm starting over from there. That also took out most of my mistakes, although there is still a flipped section fairly close to the beginning. I'm leaving it. It's made with love and it almost looks like an intentional part of the pattern! I haven't figured out how to correct the dropped stitches, so I'm leaving them too, I'm learning! I've joined Ravelry and have a headband/ear warmer slated for my next project. I'm hoping that I'll have enough of the yarn I'm using for the blanket to use for that too, because even though the pattern calls for 4 skeins, I made it over halfway on one. So now I'm back at my halfway point and I'm hoping that it goes right this time!! I wrote out the pattern on my iPad so hopefully I won't get off track like I did before!

Way before halfway...with the first flip

Getting to half...it felt like forever!!
The original halfway point.

The first two pictures are from my phone, the third is from my iPad. (I'm really loving the Google+ app's Instant Upload feature!!) The info on the pattern and yarn I'm using, if anyone is interested can be found on my Ravelry page here: D's Blanket

Goodbye 2012!!

I can't believe it's already New Year's Eve 2012!! We all survived the Mayan Apocalypse, which seemed to be the big "thing" this year. As far as our family goes, this yep ear has been pretty tame. No move, no new baby, no new pet...but it was a great year with lots of cool stuff.

Munchkin is potty trained (except for nights, but I'm not pushing it and we're ok with it. Another perk of our cloth diapers--she's not using anything that wouldn't be used by Lil Man!) She's also amazing us with her learning. She's so smart and picks up stuff so easily. She counts to 15, is working on 20, sings her ABCs, recognizes letters--upper and lower case, and letter sounds. I found a homeschool store that we're going to have to go check out, so we'll see who we end up with from there! She also started dance classes this fall and is IN.LOVE! I love seeing her get so excited for dance every week! This year will bring her first recital!

Lil Man has grown SO much this year. Obviously, babies grow a ton in their first year, but it still amazes me! He's almost walking and we're getting him his first haircut soon. (Pretty much the first chance we have that the place is open) He's talking well too. Mama, Dada, hi, bye, and other nonsense babbles. He eats like a crazy fiend and is still nursing well (1/2 way to our goal of 2 years!). He goes bananas for bananas. At the commissary, we have to be careful when we get them--if he sees us get them or them in the cart, he does his excited dance and then cries when he doesn't get one! Chicken is another of his favorites. He really doesn't not like anything we've given him! He and Munchkin play so well together, I love that they get along so well and obviously love each other.

Mark's been rocking along in his cushy job, which will come to an end this spring and had quite a few adventures from it. He got to go to Hawaii and cold weather training. Thankfully there isn't a deployment looming over us.

As for me, my year seemed to be most marked by losing weight. From my pre-pregnancy weight to now, I've lost 55lbs. Not too shabby! Especially considering that it's come off with pretty much only exercise. I try to make healthy food choices, but I don't do nearly as well as I should! And, the kicker, it's staying off!! It's been a huge adjustment getting used to my new body--and hopefully it continues to change! I have about 10 more pounds to lose to reach my goal.

Lightning is becoming a grumpy old man dog, but since he turned 7 this year--officially making him a "senior" dog--I guess he's earned it. He's still an amazing dog and we frequently forget that he's as old as he is, only remembering when he gets hurt from doing little things. His knees have given him trouble for a few years and it's something we'll deal with forever. We're hoping to have him around for quite a long time still!

So there's our 2012 in a nutshell (at least what I could remember as I'm going along!). I'm excited for what 2013 has in store for us!!!
